Whatever is wrong with your machine, we can fix it. This includes loss of compression, blown motors, or seized engines. We can fix drive trains, drive chains, cylinder heads, and all other engine components.  Our most common services are listed below. If you don’t see what you need, call us! Powersport Engine Rebuilds

Alpine XC is a full-service engine rebuild shop and will perform top end, bottom end, or full engine rebuilds for two stroke and four stroke motorcycles, side by sides, and more. 

 A motor rebuild includes prep work, teardown, inspection, and reassembly. We follow accepted service manual procedures to ensure quality work for all repairs. All engine builds also have vapor blasting included to help your machine run and look as good as new.

Does my engine need rebuilding?

You may be wondering if your engine needs to be rebuilt or if there is a simpler solution. If your motorcycle or sxs is exhibiting any of these symptoms, it may be a sign that your vehicle needs to be rebuilt.

  • Excessive smoke - 2-strokes are supposed to smoke a little, but 4-strokes should not Burning oil - If your machine is burning through oil at a faster than usual rate, it may be an indication that something is wrong.
  • Engine knocking - If you hear a distinct knocking sound while riding, you should definitely bring your machine into our service center repair shop.
  • Sludge or shavings in the oil - This indicates that parts inside the motor are grinding and likely need replaced.
2 Stroke Top End Rebuild

The engine removal and rebuilding process may vary depending on your bike or machine. A top end rebuild for a 2 stroke motor will follow service manual guidelines but typically adheres to the following process:

  • Compression test
  • Remove and inspect cylinder
  • Advice for cylinder (reuse, replate, or replace)
  • Replace piston and gaskets
  • Vapor blast surface head and cylinder
  • Reinstall motor
  • Tighten engine mounting bolts and all removed bolts with torque wrench according to service manual specifications
  • Replace drained fluids
  • Replace spark plug

4 Stroke Top End Rebuild

The engine removal and rebuilding process may vary depending on your bike or machine. A top end rebuild for a 4 stroke motor will follow service manual guidelines but typically adheres to the following process:

  • Check valve clearance
  • Remove and inspect head, valves, valve seats, valve guides, cams, and cylinder
  • Advice for cylinder (reuse, replate, or replace)
  • Replace piston, timing chain, and gaskets
  • Vapor blast surface head and cylinder
  • Reinstall engine
  • Set valve clearance
  • Replace drained fluids
  • Replace spark plug

Vapor Blasting

Vapor blasting, also known as wet sanding, slurry blasting, liquid honing, or dustless blasting, uses a pressurized mix of water and light abrasives to delicately remove rust, corrosion, and other contaminants from a variety of surfaces. Wet sanding is ideal for cleaning and reconditioning parts and is especially popular for historical part restoration. Alpine XC uses a quality slurry blasting cabinet to restore engine and chassis parts including carburetors, valve covers, cylinder heads, brake calipers and more.

The only downside to vapor blasting…you’ll want to clean the rest of your machine to match.

Vapor Blasting vs Sand Blasting

Sand blasting, also known as dry or abrasive blasting, is a common technique for surface preparation and parts restoration. Sand blasting uses heavy duty blasting equipment to clean surfaces using compressed air and blast media. The abrasive media removes rust and grime with aggressive force, but can also sometimes damage parts.

The major difference between dry and wet blasting is that wet blasting uses a mix of water and abrasive blast media rather than just abrasive media. Adding water to the mix allows for a finer finish and more polished surface profile on a wide range of materials including stainless steel and aluminum. High quality wet blasting machines also reduce the amount of dust created. This is valuable because dust can get trapped in small spaces and damage your engine.
